November 4, 2009 · Posted in Health, Personal · Comment

The connection of mesothelioma and asbestos has been legendary. The fact still holds that asbestos causes mesothelioma cancer. But what is asbestos? Well, it is a mineral that is prominent and used widely in most of the manufacturing undertakings of companies. This prominent mineral is used primarily for various projects such as for construction. This mineral is known to cause health hazards as it causes Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma. The government banned the use of asbestos in products.

A physical examination can determine mesothelioma prognosis. A mesothelioma prognosis is also determined by the results of the medical tests that evaluates this rare asbestos cancer. Once it is determined, treating can start. Early diagnosis and followed by treatment is best for mesothelioma patients. If mesothelioma is diagnosed at an advanced stage, one to five year survival is usually unreliable.

The mesothelioma asbestos relationship is so threathening. Asbestos is a big threat for people who worked and have been regularly exposed to it for they most likely inhaled its fibers on a regular basis. Once it is inhaled, it lodges the lungs and causes scarring, irritation and abnormal cell growth which results to cancer and tumor. Mesothelioma is also known as Asbestos Cancer.

Killer Mosquitoes’ Killer…

June 6, 2009 · Posted in Health, Technology · Comment

I’m the type of a person who would always go outdoors, I always go to different places, I go hiking during vacation at work, mountain climbing, nature tripping, I really love to travel. At home, I enjoy relaxing at the backyard of my house, it has such a nice touch of nature there.

But I used to have one big problem at my backyard, MOSQUITOES, little vampires, female blood-suckers! Terrible mosquitoes would always ruin my relaxation specially during rainy season, they even managed to get inside my house and ruin our sleep, our dinner and all my days. I really hate everything about mosquitoes. In my country, Philippines. Mosquitoes even carry deadly diseases like Malaria and Dengue, commonly carried by Aedes Aegypti (one among many specie of mosquitoes).

Until I had found out that mosquitoes could be magnetized, I have tried several battery-operated electric mosquito killers but they just don’t work good enough inside my home, and worse is that it doesn’t work outdoors. Good thing a friend told me about Mosquito Magnets. I tried it out and it was a good solution, I was surprised to find out how many mosquitoes were trapped after using it for 24 hours. I did not expect it could trap as many as that.

That is why I call it the Killer Mosquitoes Killer… I don’t have to worry about the mosquitoes in my backyard or in my whole sorroundings, my Mosquito Magnet will handle everything for me.

FACTS ABOUT THE KILLER RABIES

May 28, 2009 · Posted in Health · Comment

Aside from the fact that Anti-Rabies vaccination would cost a lot, there are other facts about its deadly infection. A friend’s mother died and they are blaming it to the dog’s bite which caused the rabies. Actually not only dogs can spread rabies, it may also be transmitted by other mammals’ bite such as cats’, cattle’s. But the majority of rabies cases are caused by wild animals such as bats, foxes, and raccoons. Only 10% of the total cases of rabies infection are caused by cats, dogs and cattle. The possibility of death caused by rabies infection occur to people who are much likely not aware of their infection therefore they have not been able to seek for medical attention.

I am glad to say that rabies is preventable. We are lucky because vaccines to prevent human rabies are available now not like before. That is why the number of people dying from rabies every year gradually decreases. But there are still countries in which vaccinations and other health resources are not yet available for public. In these countries, to stay away from these rabid animals is the best way to prevent rabies infection.

The symptoms of rabies infection include fever, headache and general depression.

If you are expecting, you may have experienced or presently experiencing the most difficult part of pregnancy. For most women, the first trimester is the most difficult part of pregnancy but there are lucky women who have not experienced it at all. An others experienced it the entire 9 months of their pregnancy.

These difficulties includes nausea, vomiting, heart burn and morning sickness. These difficulties are all caused by the sudden change of the hormonal level in our body during pregnancy. I have read lots of books about pregnancy and I want to share some of the effective ways to get rid of these difficulties or at least lessen them.

  1. Eat frequently but of small amounts. This will help your body digest the foods you eat properly. This is an effective way to greatly reduce nausea.
  2. Make it a habit to eat cracker in the morning and before going to bed. This could be easily digested by your body.

  4. To demote vomiting, limit your consumption of sodium. Stay away from canned or frozen foods and greatly salted foods.

GENES VS. ENVIRONMENT ON THE CAUSE OF SCHIZOPHRENIA.

May 26, 2009 · Posted in General, Health · Comment

Before I clarify my stand on whether Schizophrenia is something caused by genes or environment, Let me introduce the term first for those who are not familiar with it. The term Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that is characterized by a person’s abnormalities in the perception or expression of reality.

Most of us believed that this is something that is caused by emotional disturbances on one’s mind. Emotional disturbances may be caused by people surrounding them who may not be satisfied by what he is doing, people who always contradicts his plans, or parents showing unequal love to their offspring. Other’s blame it to the immediate family’s not paying attention , not showing affection, much love, care, trust and others that may affect one’s emotional stability.

Studies about the causes of Schizophrenia suggest that genetics and early environment are both contributory factors as well as social and psychological process of a person. According to a research, those children born during winter months in the Northern hemisphere as well as those who are born in an urban environment is associated with increased risk of Schizophrenia than the average kids. Children born from mother who had genital infections, exposed to alcohol and x-ray radiation, suffer from great stress, used pain killers, had low folic level, and lacked vitamin D from the sun during pregnancy are all associated with a higher risk of Schizophrenia.

Complications during baby’s delivery, old age of the father, are also associated to a child’s higher risk of Schizophrenia. Others associated to a child’s higher risk to Schizophrenia are social isolation, stress, and head injury early in life.

On the other hand, breast feeding your baby, less stress on the child, exposure to the sun’s vitamin D, proper nutrition, antioxidant supplements and enriched social environment, may lower the risk of Schizophrenia.

ADHD or Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder…

May 26, 2009 · Posted in General, Health · Comment

Being in the Education field led me to the realization that each child has different needs when it comes to instruction. I have seen students that really made well in my subjects but what really got my attention are those kids who are extremely active that I found it so hard to get their attention into my instruction. These kids are more active than what should be usual for their age.

I’ve known few students in my class acting this way. These students are suffering from Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. And it is usual for those kids who have ADHD to possess this unusual impulsiveness. They also have problems paying attention in school. Their behavior made it impossible for them to be understood and leads to learning, social relationship, and behavioral problems.

ADHD is common to school-age children and especially seen in boys. You may notice that a child who has ADHD and is hyperactive may move and talk too much, cannot stay on his seat longer, or cannot wait for his turn. While a child who has ADHD and is inattentive may show difficulty following instruction and paying attention. Also, they usually forget things needed for their activity and frequently lose their possessions.

Patience and understanding is needed by these kids who posses this kind of disorder. The more you understand them and their situation, the easier it will be to interact with them.
